Miyetti Allah Warns: Bandit Violence Wiping Out Fulani Communities

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, has dismissed allegations linking the association to the worsening insecurity in the country, insisting that Fulani pastoralists are among the greatest victims of banditry and rural violence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Othman-Ngelzarma made the remarks in reaction to a statement credited to Prophet Isa El-Buba, a Plateau State cleric and President of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries International, who accused Miyetti Allah of bearing significant responsibility for the ongoing crisis. El-Buba alleged that if the association chose to intervene, the killings and kidnappings attributed to armed groups could end immediately.

Rejecting the accusations, Othman-Ngelzarma stated that Miyetti Allah neither supports nor shields criminal elements. He stressed that pastoralists, who predominantly live in remote forests with their families and depend entirely on cattle for survival, are frequent targets of violent attacks. According to him, herders are killed daily, their livestock stolen, and their communities displaced.

He cited a recent incident in Sokoto State where bandits reportedly rustled more than 10,000 cattle belonging to different families, describing it as evidence that Fulani communities are also suffering. “We are not a criminal organisation and we condemn criminality in every form. Yes, some Fulani youth may be among criminal groups, but Fulani people themselves are not spared. They are being killed and impoverished daily,” he said.

Othman-Ngelzarma further expressed support for security agencies to pursue criminals regardless of tribe, ethnicity, or social status. He welcomed the Federal Government’s creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a step towards ending the open grazing culture that has often put herders at risk.

According to him, the new ministry must develop sustainable policies to settle pastoralists in organized communities and improve security for livestock farmers. He added that Miyetti Allah would continue to sensitize its members, collaborate with authorities, and pressure government to adopt long-term solutions to the country’s insecurity challenges.
