Lagos Targets 10,000 New Jobs With Ambitious Leather Hub Project
According to Nivo News, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated a state-of-the-art leather processing and manufacturing hub in Mushin, designed to generate 10,000 direct jobs and position the state as West Africa’s leading leather logistics center.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The facility, named in honor of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was formally commissioned on Saturday during her three-day working visit to Lagos. The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, disclosed that the hub is equipped with advanced machinery for mass production of shoes, bags, belts, packaging materials, and other leather goods.
Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the project will support nano, small, and medium-scale enterprises that struggle to meet bulk orders due to inadequate tools and capacity. He added that when fully operational, the hub is expected to generate over $250 million annually in export turnover, while training and empowering more than 150,000 artisans to raise productivity and market competitiveness.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu described the initiative as a landmark achievement that underscores Lagos’ role as Nigeria’s hub of innovation and enterprise. She noted that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to accelerate economic diversification through industrialization, digitalization, creative arts, and manufacturing. She urged workers at the hub to embrace excellence, continuous learning, and global market standards.
Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged to safeguard and expand the facility through transparent regulation, infrastructure upgrades, and strategic linkages to fashion districts, e-commerce platforms, and rail services for efficient movement of goods. He emphasized that 70 percent of employment opportunities at the hub would be reserved for artisans, women, and youths, helping to deepen Lagos’ non-oil export capacity.
Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, added that the hub would enable local producers to manufacture higher-quality goods at reduced costs, positioning Lagos-made leather products to compete favorably in both domestic and international markets.

Deregistration Drama: Courtroom Showdown Over ADC And Accord Party Hits A New Delay!.
-
Case Adjournment: The Court of Appeal in Abuja has postponed the hearing of an appeal regarding the potential deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and three other political parties until July 7.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
-
Procedural Delay: The court moved the hearing date from June 25 to allow the involved parties sufficient time to file and exchange their briefs of argument.
-
Reasoning for New Date: Although Accord Party counsel, Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), requested a three-day window to file, Justice Abubakar Mohammed explained that the panel’s upcoming official commitments necessitated selecting July 7 as the earliest available date.
-
Background of the Dispute: The appeal follows a Federal High Court ruling by Justice Peter Lifu, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC, Accord Party, Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for allegedly failing to meet constitutional performance benchmarks.
-
INEC’s Position: INEC has challenged this deregistration order, arguing that these parties met the necessary constitutional thresholds by securing elective positions in previous elections and providing certificates of return as evidence.
-
Stay of Execution: On June 16, the Court of Appeal previously ordered a stay of execution on the Federal High Court’s judgment, preventing INEC from proceeding with the deregistration until the current appeal is decided.
-
Procedural Criticism: The appellate court had previously criticized Justice Lifu for ignoring an earlier order to suspend proceedings, noting that such an action undermined the established hierarchy of the courts.
-
Origin of the Suit: The original legal challenge was filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, who argued that these specific parties failed to meet the electoral performance standards required by the 1999 Constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act.
