According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, the operation targeted the hideout of bandit kingpin Babaro and his gang, who were responsible for the recent deadly attack on Gidan Mantau in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

Mu’azu, in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Katsina, said, “This morning, the NAF conducted a decisive air operation at Pauwa Hill in Kankara Local Government Area, successfully rescuing 76 kidnapped victims, including women and children. The precision air interdiction, carried out between 6 pm and 7 pm, specifically targeted Babaro’s stronghold at Pauwa Hill, one of his most notorious bases that has long terrorized surrounding communities.”

The commissioner confirmed that all those abducted during the Gidan Mantau attack were among the rescued individuals. Tragically, one child lost his life during the ordeal.

Mu’azu described the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing security efforts across Katsina State, highlighting that it forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal hideouts, disrupt bandit networks, and put an end to the cycle of killings, kidnappings, and extortion that has plagued local communities.

“The rescue underscores the effectiveness of coordinated air and ground operations. The Katsina State Government commends the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and other security agencies for their courage and professionalism. We remain committed to supporting them through logistics, intelligence-sharing, and community engagement until banditry is completely eradicated,” the statement added.

Citizens were also urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to assist security forces as operations continue to reclaim towns and villages from criminal elements.

She emphasized that her focus is on expanding the existing trade framework between Nigeria and Israel, describing it as essential to deepening economic ties and improving collaboration between both nations.

Ufochukwu also noted that her agenda extends beyond trade, including the promotion of Nigeria’s culture, agriculture, and investment opportunities, as well as supporting training programmes in cybersecurity and information technology.

She assured stakeholders of her commitment to fully delivering on her responsibilities, adding that sustained communication and cooperation would be important in achieving set goals.

Participants at the forum highlighted the need for Nigeria to address structural barriers affecting business growth, while pointing to Israel’s innovation-driven economy as a model worth studying.

One of the attendees, Pastor Henry Opara, called for formal bilateral agreements, stressing that most current business interactions between both countries are informal and based on personal relationships rather than structured government frameworks.

He argued that stronger government-to-government agreements would provide clearer rules and more stable economic engagement.

Similarly, the National Coordinator of the Nigeria–Israel Business Forum, Mrs. Florence Osuji, urged both countries to renew official trade agreements, noting that some existing arrangements have expired, leaving current trade relations without strong institutional backing.
