Meanwhile, the Senate has clarified the rationale behind excluding the FCT from proposed frameworks for decentralized policing. Speaking on the matter, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, explained that the territory operates under a distinct administrative structure compared to the 36 states. Unlike states headed by elected governors and legislative assemblies, the FCT is directly administered by the Federal Government through a minister accountable to the Federal Executive Council, with legislative oversight managed exclusively by the National Assembly. Consequently, the region remains integrated under the federal security framework as discussions regarding the National Policing Bill continue at the presidency.
