Three In Custody As Police Crack Down On Child-Traffickers In Imo
Police in Imo State have arrested a couple and the alleged ringleader of a child-trafficking syndicate linked to the abduction of a four-year-old boy from Kogi State. According to Nivo News, operatives of the command intercepted 46-year-old Ezekwere Ngozi and her husband, 43-year-old Monday Atodo, during a stop-and-search operation along the Owerri–Port Harcourt Road on August 12, 2025. The couple was found traveling with the missing child, identified only as Isaiah, whom they falsely claimed was their biological son.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Investigations revealed that Isaiah had been abducted in Kogi State by an associate identified as Blessing Ogwo, who handed him over to Ngozi for delivery to an awaiting buyer. Police said further inquiries exposed 56-year-old Ogochukwu Chikwelu, proprietor of St. Theresa’s Orphanage in Apo Street, Lokogoma, Abuja, as the mastermind behind the trafficking ring. Chikwelu, a native of Nimo in Anambra State, was tracked and arrested in Abuja in a joint operation with the State CID and later transferred to Owerri for prosecution.
Authorities confirmed that baby Isaiah is safe and efforts are underway to reunite him with his parents while pursuing other members of the network still at large.
In a related operation on July 16, 2025, police apprehended 29-year-old Precious Okoh from Enugu State after she attempted to sell a nine-year-old girl in Owerri. Okoh confessed that the child, Promise Christopher, had been stolen from Igbogene in Bayelsa State. Operatives traced the victim’s parents and successfully reunited her with her family.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, commended his operatives for their swift action and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to stamping out child trafficking, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information to safeguard children and other vulnerable persons.
