A Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the police from arresting or interrogating popular radio host Chinedu Ani, widely known as Nedu Wazobia, over an alleged breach of contract. According to Nivo News, Justice Dehinde Dipeolu granted the order after Nedu and five others filed a suit seeking to protect their fundamental rights.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The court specifically barred the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General at Alagbon, and other officers from summoning, detaining, or otherwise harassing the applicants in connection with a contractual dispute involving the Metropolitan School of Business. However, Justice Dipeolu declined to freeze ongoing transactions between the parties.

The respondents named in the suit include Victor Ariyibi-Oke, Mrs. Tolulope Ariyibi-Oke, CSP Ngozi Braide, ASP Stephen Onihane, and Inspector Echeng Julius. The co-applicants alongside Nedu are Sarah Williams-Konha, Avalon Okpe, Ada Okpe, Barbara Okwaranobi, and Tokindrumz Pictures and Media Nigeria Ltd.

Court filings show the dispute stemmed from a partnership formed in early 2024 to fund school fees for underprivileged children through a charity gala, which the respondents reportedly agreed to sponsor with over N83 million. Although the event generated pledges and donations, the sponsors later demanded a refund of N60 million.

The applicants alleged that following the fallout, they were subjected to repeated police summons, harassment, unlawful detention, and even passport seizures. They argued that the matter was purely contractual and should not involve law enforcement.

In addition to seeking a declaration that the police actions were unlawful, the applicants requested the immediate return of their passports and demanded N2 billion in damages for the alleged violation of their fundamental rights.
