Her closest rival, Johnny Aikpitanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 3,838 votes, while Dr. Sandra Asemota of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 925 votes.
Making the official declaration, Ighodalo said, “This is the declaration. I, Professor Clement Ighodalo, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, held on the 16th day of August, 2024. Omosede Igbinedion of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner of the election.”
The election, conducted under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw the APC achieve a decisive victory in the constituency. Igbinedion, a former lawmaker, will return to the House of Representatives to represent Ovia North-East and Ovia South-West, further consolidating the APC’s presence in Edo State politics.
Meanwhile, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has urged the APC to acknowledge its new role as an opposition party in Kano State. Ahmad emphasized the need for unity among party members to restore its prominence, following the overwhelming victory of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Saturday’s Kano by-election.
In a post on Facebook, Ahmad stated, “Even though I struggled to find the right words to describe today’s by-elections in Kano, one thing became clear: our party needs real, absolute unity. We must stop denying that the APC is now an opposition party in Kano. Until we acknowledge this reality, we cannot begin the serious work needed to reclaim our position. It is time to collaborate with anyone and everyone to restore our party’s relevance and winning power.”
