NSC DG Vows: Super Falcons’ $100,000 Reward Will Be Delivered In Full

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has assured that the Super Falcons will receive the $100,000 each promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Falcons clinched their 10th continental crown in Morocco on July 26, after which President Tinubu announced a comprehensive reward package — $100,000 for each of the 24 players, $50,000 for every member of the technical crew, national honours as Officers of the Order of the Niger (OON), and three-bedroom apartments in Abuja.

However, the team’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, recently revealed that none of the pledges had been fulfilled, alleging that even the tournament match bonuses were still “a work in progress.” “We have not received anything yet,” Ajibade said, igniting public debate over the government’s commitment to honouring its word.

In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Olopade maintained that all match bonuses had been cleared except for “one or two” players whose accounts had issues with the Central Bank of Nigeria. “On the promise Mr President made, we need to stop playing politics and games with everything — it will be paid,” he stated.

Olopade also confirmed that discussions were ongoing with the Ministry of Housing and the Renewed Hope Homes programme to ensure timely delivery of the promised apartments. “A few days ago, Mallam Shehu Dikko was still talking to the Minister for Housing, and I sat down with the gentleman in charge of the Renewed Hope Homes. Work has already started on how they will get the apartments in record time,” he explained.

The NSC boss emphasized that the Tinubu administration had redefined athlete welfare. “When we tell athletes ‘A’ will be given, they get ‘A’. We don’t play games with their remuneration or their participation in competitions. We make clear what we can deliver, and they go out to make the country proud,” Olopade affirmed.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Published

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
