Labour Party Faction Celebrates Court Victory Over INEC Access Codes
The Julius Abure–led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has welcomed a Nasarawa State High Court ruling ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide access codes for uploading the names of its candidates ahead of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obiora Ifoh, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, described the judgment delivered by Justice Mustapha A. Ramat as a “welcome development” that would correct what he called injustices against the party’s authentic leadership. According to Nivo News, Ifoh commended the court’s intervention but accused INEC of deliberately frustrating LP candidates by denying them equal opportunity to campaign.
He alleged that the electoral commission’s actions had systematically sidelined the party, citing a previous case in Ondo State where LP’s governorship candidate reportedly received access codes only 24 hours before the election. Ifoh maintained that such tactics had become a recurring pattern the party would no longer tolerate.
“We are not happy that our candidates have been denied the same time and platform to campaign as others,” he said. “Despite these obstacles, the Labour Party remains a household name, and our candidates are capable of winning.”
The court order, contained in suit No. NSD/LF.84/2024, also directed INEC to recognise Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the legitimate leaders of the party. It mandated the commission to release the access codes for uploading candidate details for the forthcoming bye-elections and the FCT council polls.
INEC has yet to publish LP’s candidate list for the bye-election scheduled for Saturday and the FCT elections expected in early 2026. Ifoh urged party members to remain resilient and demonstrate their “indomitable spirit” in ensuring victory at the polls.
