According to a statement released on Monday, the programme took place at the Aiyetobi Community in Agbado, within the Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Ipaja, Lagos State.
Delivering remarks at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, who was represented by the Director of the Citizens Engagement Department, Dr. Babatunde Omotayo, said the initiative was a strategic effort to bring governance closer to the people and empower citizens to take active roles in shaping public policy.
He stressed that in a democratic system, citizens are not mere recipients of government policies, but co-creators—making their involvement and contributions critical to sustainable development.
Dr. Omotayo urged attendees to engage actively, stay informed, voice their concerns, and offer solutions that can contribute to making Lagos a model for inclusive and participatory governance.
One of the attendees, Akinboyewa Bolarinwa, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, noting that programmes like this enhance residents’ understanding and access to government initiatives. Another participant, Ayobola Bakare, pledged to participate more actively in government schemes, saying previous challenges she faced were largely due to lack of access to crucial information.
A key highlight of the event was the on-site registration for major state government programmes, conducted by officials from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) and the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA).
