Explosive: Wike Admits Meeting Labour Party Chair, Refuses to Deny Political Motive

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike described the meeting as a routine political interaction and urged the public not to read unnecessary meanings into it.
“You said Abure came to see me. Of course, he’s a politician, and I’m a politician. What’s wrong with politicians meeting each other?” the minister said.
When pressed on whether the meeting was politically motivated or connected to the 2027 general elections, Wike declined to provide specifics but dropped a suggestive remark:
“Why would I tell you what I’m planning for 2027? You will know when the time comes.”
The meeting, which took place earlier in July, stirred public commentary and speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
Responding to the controversy, Abure also sought to clarify the situation during the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on July 22, 2025, in Abuja.
He described the visit as a private engagement that was misrepresented by critics and the media.
“Last week, I met with the FCT Minister, and it attracted a lot of comments, a lot of misconceptions, and a lot of discussion over photographs taken during the visit,” Abure said.
He added, “Now that we are gathered here, let me make a few things clear. I live in the FCT, and Nyesom Wike is the Minister. As a Nigerian citizen, I have the right to engage with any public official.”
“The meeting was private and should be viewed as such,” Abure emphasized.
