No More Mosquitoes! Oyo Embarks on Statewide Distribution of Treated Nets
The Oyo State Government has launched a large-scale distribution of over five million insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) across all 33 local government areas as part of efforts to combat the spread of malaria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the official flag-off ceremony took place at Idi-Ogungun Primary Health Care Centre, Agodi Gate, in Ibadan North LGA.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, described the campaign as a testament to the government’s firm commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable—especially pregnant women and children under five.
Dr. Ajetunmobi cautioned against the misuse of the nets, warning residents not to repurpose them for fishing, gardening, window screens, or commercial decoration. She stressed that the newly distributed nets are made from breathable, lightweight materials that remain comfortable in well-ventilated rooms and should be used nightly for maximum effectiveness.
She also warned that hoarding or diverting the nets constitutes a punishable offence under the law, urging households to make proper use of the free nets to prevent illness, hospitalisation, and death.
“These nets are not just items; they are life-saving tools. When used properly and consistently, ITNs serve as a strong defense against malaria, one of the leading causes of sickness and death in our communities,” she said.
Dr. Ajetunmobi reaffirmed the state’s resolve to reach every household, assuring residents that mop-up operations would follow the main distribution to ensure full coverage.
She added, “Let me make it clear: anyone caught hoarding, selling, or misusing these nets will face legal consequences. These nets are provided free by the government and our development partners solely to protect lives, not for profit.”
The distribution exercise, which runs from August 1 to 7, 2025, is being carried out through designated fixed-point delivery locations, supported by electronic tracking systems to guarantee transparency, accountability, and universal access.

The 33-year-old Liverpool star remains the central figure in coach Hossam Hassan’s selection, despite reports linking him with a possible exit from Anfield after nine successful years at the club.
Salah, who has scored 67 goals in 115 appearances for Egypt, will carry the nation’s hopes as they aim for a strong run in the tournament.
Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush also made the squad following an impressive season, while 18-year-old Barcelona U19 striker Hamza Abdelkarim earned a surprise call-up despite not yet making a senior international appearance. Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed was among the notable omissions.
Egypt will reduce the squad to the FIFA-required 26 players after their friendly against Russia in Cairo on May 28, before facing Brazil in another warm-up match on June 6 in Cleveland.
The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group G, where they will begin their campaign against Belgium on June 15, followed by matches against New Zealand and Iran.
The squad also includes goalkeepers Mohamed El Shenawy and Mostafa Shobeir, along with experienced midfielders Mahmoud Trezeguet and Emam Ashour, as Egypt prepare for the expanded 48-team World Cup across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
