Joel Osteen Devastated as Mother Dies, Goodluck Jonathan Offers Heartfelt Condolences

Affectionately known as “Mama Dodie,” Dolores was the co-founder of Lakewood Church, which she established in 1959 alongside her late husband, John Osteen, in Houston, Texas. The church has since grown into one of the largest congregations in the United States, recognized for its wide-reaching and impactful ministry.
Her death was confirmed by her son on Thursday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he disclosed that she died of natural causes.
“It is with a heavy heart that Victoria and I, along with our family, announce the passing of our cherished mother and grandmother, Dolores ‘Dodie’ Osteen,” Joel wrote in the emotional tribute.
He described his mother as a symbol of unwavering strength and faith, whose lifelong commitment was to serving God and inspiring others.
Among those who paid early tributes was former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who expressed profound sorrow over her passing.
In his message, Jonathan described Mrs. Osteen as “a remarkable woman of deep faith and resilience,” saying, “I join Christians around the world in mourning the passing of Mrs. Dolores Osteen, the beloved mother of Pastor Joel Osteen and co-founder of Lakewood Church.”
He continued: “Together with her late husband, she built a ministry that continues to uplift and encourage millions globally. Her life was a living testament to the power of prayer, the grace of endurance, and the strength that flows from a heart anchored in God.”
Jonathan added, “Her legacy will live on not only through Lakewood Church but also in the lives she touched with her compassion and unwavering faith. I extend my deepest condolences to Pastor Joel Osteen, the entire Osteen family, and the Lakewood Church community. May God grant you comfort and strength during this time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
