This was contained in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the third session of the sixth synod of the Diocese, held from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Jebba.
According to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Friday, the synod was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Oluwaseun Aderogba.
While acknowledging the administration’s economic reforms, the Synod urged the Federal Government to prioritise poverty reduction and national security over political ambitions.
“The cost of living crisis is real and biting,” Bishop Aderogba remarked.
At the state level, the Synod commended Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his development efforts but urged the government to adopt more inclusive policies, particularly targeting rural and underserved areas. It identified the Elebu–Lanwa axis as needing better electricity supply and called for urgent rehabilitation of the deteriorating Shaare–Patigi Road.
The Synod also appealed to the Kwara State Government to scale up its response to growing insecurity across both northern and southern parts of the state.
“The Synod also applauded Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State for ongoing development projects but appealed for more inclusive attention to rural and underserved communities,” the statement read.
“It specifically called for improved electricity supply in the Elebu–Lanwa axis and the urgent repair of the Shaare–Patigi Road.
“The Diocese further urged the state government to intensify efforts in addressing rising insecurity in both the northern and southern regions of Kwara.”
Themed “Liberalism and Liberty: Little Things That Matter,” the synod also examined theological and doctrinal issues within the church, while underscoring the need for responsive and people-centred governance to alleviate the burden on the populace.
