Tinubu Extends Customs CG’s Tenure — What This Means for Nigeria’s Trade Borders
President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office until August 2026. His tenure was originally scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension is intended to enable Adeniyi to consolidate critical reforms and complete priority initiatives aligned with the Tinubu administration’s agenda.
Among the key projects Adeniyi is expected to steer are the ongoing modernisation of the Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s dedication and leadership, expressing confidence that the extended tenure will enhance the Customs Service’s capacity to deliver on its core responsibilities of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and securing the nation’s borders.
Adeniyi was first appointed in an acting capacity in June 2023, following the departure of former CG Hameed Ali, and was confirmed as the substantive Comptroller-General in October 2023.
