Enough Is Enough!’: Lawyer Urges Igbo Nation to Confront Mounting Bloodshed”
Human rights lawyer and lead counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has issued a passionate call to Ndigbo to rise against the escalating killings and erosion of core values in the South-East region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released Monday from Awka, Anambra State, Ejiofor decried the alarming descent of the region into violence, stressing that the sanctity of life in the South-East has “plummeted to terrifying depths.” His statement was in response to Friday’s brutal attacks by unidentified gunmen who stormed three communities—Umualoma, Ndiakunwanta, and Ndiejezie—in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA of Imo State, killing at least seven and leaving many others severely injured.
Eyewitness accounts say the assailants, riding motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately in the affected villages, leaving death and devastation in their wake.
Reacting to the tragedy, Ejiofor called on leaders at all levels—local, state, and federal—to rise above politics, fear, and apathy, and immediately implement a security structure that guarantees both protection and justice.
“With a heart heavy and burning with grief, I write today not just as a son of Alaigbo but as a keeper of our collective conscience. I cannot remain silent while our homeland spirals into horror and moral decay,” Ejiofor stated.
He recounted the Friday morning massacre across Obinetiti, Ndiejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakunwanta in Arondizuogu as more than just another act of bloodshed. “It was a brutal symbol of our crumbling humanity,” he said, adding that a disturbing video of the attack—too horrifying to share—captured “lifeless bodies of our brothers, sisters, elders, and youth, gunned down in cold blood.”
“They weren’t armed. They weren’t criminals. They weren’t enemies. They were Igbos. Human beings. And yet, they were reduced to corpses and statistics in a single, savage moment,” he said.
Ejiofor described the massacre as “genocide in real time” and questioned the existence of governance in Imo State. “Is there still a government? Or has it been fully replaced by brute force, impunity, and the silent complicity of those who once swore an oath to protect?”
He further lamented that the killings were no longer isolated incidents but part of a larger, unspoken war on the Igbo people. “What we’re seeing is not a declared war—it’s an undeclared, systematic war. A war against a people now defenceless for being who they are.”
According to Ejiofor, the region has descended into a lawless jungle where life holds no value. “Our beloved Alaigbo has become a wasteland of shattered dreams, rotting corpses, and unanswered questions.”
He issued a forceful appeal to those in authority to take immediate and decisive action. “This is a call to conscience. A call to leadership. A call to urgent action. If governance still exists, then let it protect, not persecute; heal, not harm.”
Demanding justice, Ejiofor condemned the killings as not just a political and security failure, but “a moral collapse and spiritual betrayal—the slow murder of a people’s soul.”
He concluded:
“Let Alaigbo rise. Let the truth be told without fear. Let the killings stop, the mourning end, and the healing begin. Enough is enough—if it hasn’t already been. May the souls of the innocent rest in peace, and may our land find redemption before it’s too late.”
