Wild Twist: Ex-Attorney General Legally Holds Exotic Beasts at Private Residence
The former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, holds valid government-issued licences permitting him to keep wild animals at his private residence in Kano, the Kano Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency has confirmed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a radio interview on Thursday, the agency’s Managing Director, Sadik Kura Muhammad, clarified that Idris was authorised under Nigeria’s Wild Animal Law to possess certain species, including a python, a crocodile, and a lion cub, as long as the animals were housed in a secure environment and met legal requirements.
“There is a law that permits individuals to keep wild animals at home,” Muhammad stated. “However, endangered species such as parrots and vultures must be kept in zoos to help preserve their population.”
Muhammad explained that although the animals in Idris’ custody were not yet mature enough to pose serious danger, they were evacuated to ensure public safety following complaints from residents.
“When the incident came to our attention, we verified that the license was valid and that the lion was still a cub. Nevertheless, once these animals mature, they must be relocated to the zoo. That’s why the licence must be renewed yearly to uphold safety standards,” he added.
Arewa PUNCH had earlier reported that a python had escaped from Idris’ residence in Daneji, a densely populated area of Kano Municipal Local Government Area. The escape triggered widespread panic in neighbouring communities such as Mandawari, Kabara, and Soron Dinki.
Residents expressed deep concern, calling for immediate government intervention.
“Since the python escaped, we’ve been living in fear,” said Nurulhaq Kabir Muhammad, a local resident. “All other animals were evacuated on Tuesday.”
Another resident, Rabi’u Isma’il, said parents had stopped allowing their children to play outside. Aisha Lawal, a mother of three, appealed to authorities to act swiftly to prevent any harm.
In response to the alarm raised by the public, the Kano Zoo confirmed that it conducted a discreet night-time operation to recover the python and other wild animals from the residence and relocate them to the zoo.
“We carried out the evacuation at night. There’s no need for panic—the animals are now safe and under our care,” Muhammad assured.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed that Idris has been invited for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the matter.
Idris, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari (now deceased), is also facing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N100 billion fraud.
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, also weighed in, issuing a stern warning to the former AGF. Receiving a delegation from Daneji Quarters who voiced their fears, the Emir urged Idris to remove the wild animals from the city center and warned that he would be held accountable if anyone was harmed.
The python reportedly escaped last Sunday from Idris’ residence, further intensifying public scrutiny of the embattled former government official.
The incident has renewed calls from residents and civil society groups for stricter enforcement of wildlife control laws—especially in urban residential areas.

“Relief At Last!” – Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol Price To ₦1,250 Per Litre.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has adjusted its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), lowering it from ₦1,275 to ₦1,250 per litre, marking a two per cent reduction. This price shift is attributed to a decline in international crude oil prices, which serve as the refinery’s primary feedstock. An official from the refinery noted that such adjustments are expected in a deregulated market and emphasized that the company will continue to calibrate prices based on evolving market conditions. Despite this move, current retail prices at many filling stations across Nigeria remain above ₦1,350 per litre, with costs varying by location and marketer.Beyond pricing, the refinery has been credited as a key driver of Nigeria’s improving economic outlook. S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded the country’s long-term foreign- and local-currency sovereign credit ratings from “B-” to “B,” citing factors such as stronger economic growth, increased oil production, and improved external balances. S&P specifically highlighted the operational ramp-up of the Dangote refinery’s 650,000-barrel-per-day facility as a significant contributor to the nation’s enhanced balance-of-payments position and overall economic resilience.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Political Grudge Match: Ganduje Mocks Kwankwaso, Declares Him His Former “Political Boy”!.
A political war of words has erupted between former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The friction began when Kwankwaso, speaking at his Kano residence, insisted that prominent politicians—including Ganduje—owe their political rise to his mentorship and cannot deny their past loyalty to him. Ganduje, currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, responded through his chief of staff, Muhammad Garba, by asserting that Kwankwaso was actually his own protégé. Ganduje highlighted his role in Kwankwaso’s early career, including his support during Kwankwaso’s rise to the House of Representatives and his decision to step down as a gubernatorial candidate in 1998 to serve as Kwankwaso’s deputy.
