Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described the passage of the Osun Electricity Bill as a landmark achievement that will drive economic transformation and resolve the state’s persistent power crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reacting to the bill’s approval by the Osun State House of Assembly, Governor Adeleke said the legislation paves the way for massive investment in the state’s power sector, particularly in renewable and off-grid energy solutions.
In a statement issued Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor said:
“This new law ensures an appropriate energy mix. Renewable energy will complement conventional power sources. Osun is now open for business in the energy sector.”
He noted that the law gives Osun State the power to regulate and diversify electricity generation, reducing reliance on the national grid and mitigating chronic supply issues.
“IBEDC’s Exploitation Ends Now” – Adeleke Declares
Governor Adeleke issued a stern warning to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), stating that with the new law in place, Osun residents will no longer be at the mercy of poor service and exploitation.
According to him, the law provides for the establishment of a State Electricity Regulatory Agency tasked with licensing power generators and overseeing distribution companies to ensure quality service delivery.
“This commission will resolve disputes between customers and service providers, grant operational licenses, and ensure fairness. The era of consumer abuse by DisCos is over,” Adeleke said.
He emphasized that the bill offers a comprehensive policy framework to revive the state’s power sector, boost investor confidence, and empower local industries.
“We will invite all stakeholders for the formal signing ceremony. Osun’s business community can finally breathe easy—this is the policy breakthrough we’ve all been waiting for,” he added.
The governor expressed gratitude to the Osun State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Energy, and all stakeholders involved in the drafting and consultation process.
The newly passed Osun Electricity Law is expected to usher in a new era of energy autonomy, consumer protection, and localized power generation across the state.
