No Doctors, No Hope: Lagos Residents Scramble Amid Brutal Hospital Shutdown
Healthcare services in Lagos State were severely disrupted on Monday as doctors under the Medical Guild commenced a three-day warning strike over unresolved salary-related grievances with the state government.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The striking doctors—comprising medical professionals employed by the Lagos State Government—accused the authorities of making “illegal and disrespectful” deductions from their July salaries and failing to pay 12 months’ arrears owed to honorary consultants under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).
According to a strike notice posted on the Guild’s official handle, members were instructed to withdraw from all medical duties throughout the duration of the strike. The Guild also warned that any member who defied the directive would face disciplinary action.
A visit to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) by Daily Trust revealed deserted wards, with red ribbons tied across entry points to indicate restricted access. Several departments were reportedly shut down, and patients seeking treatment were turned away.
At Randle General Hospital in Surulere, while administrative operations continued, all clinical services were suspended.
“I was told to take my son back home because there are no doctors available,” said a frustrated parent, Sunday Egbe, whose child’s scheduled surgery was postponed due to the strike.
Attempts to reach the chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Moruf Abdulsalam, were unsuccessful as of press time. However, the Lagos State Ministry of Health acknowledged the strike in a statement and urged the doctors to return to the negotiating table.
“We recognise the importance of our healthcare professionals and remain committed to resolving the outstanding issues. We appeal to the Guild to resume dialogue in the interest of the public,” the ministry said.
The industrial action has triggered widespread concern among Lagos residents, particularly patients with scheduled appointments or emergency cases, who now face uncertainty over access to care.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
