The six-time African champions had a sluggish start, trailing 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. However, guided by head coach Rena Wakama, the Nigerian side regrouped and fought their way back, levelling the score at 15-15 in the second quarter before seizing control in the second half.
D’Tigress outscored their opponents 18-15 in the third quarter and 18-12 in the fourth, finding their rhythm and closing the game with composure and tactical discipline.
Ezinne Kalu led the offensive charge with a standout performance, recording 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Promise Amukamara added 13 points and six rebounds, while Murjanatu Musa delivered a pivotal double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Amy Okonkwo and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah contributed eight and six points, respectively.
Nigeria attempted 60 field goals, converting 20, and dominated the glass with 42 rebounds. Their defensive tenacity also shone through with 15 steals and 10 blocks.
Despite attempting 62 shots, Mozambique also made only 20 field goals and were hampered by 18 costly turnovers. Ingvild Mucauro was the bright spot for the Southern Africans, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Leia Dongue and Silvia Veloso added seven points each, but their efforts fell short.
With the win, D’Tigress advance to the last eight, keeping their dream alive for a record-extending seventh continental title. Mozambique, on the other hand, will now navigate the playoff round in hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
