You Can’t Fool Nigerians – PDP Chieftain Says Yilwatda’s APC Role Lays Bare Electoral Bias
The emergence of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked sharp criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and several concerned Nigerians.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy stems from Yilwatda’s previous role as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Opposition voices allege that his elevation to APC’s top position is a calculated move by President Bola Tinubu to undermine the electoral body’s independence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda was named APC National Chairman during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down on June 27 citing health concerns.
Appointed as REC in July 2017, Yilwatda was posted to Benue State and was involved in elections across Benue, Anambra, Osun, Rivers, and Cross River during his four-year tenure before resigning in 2022. He later contested the 2023 Plateau State governorship election under the APC. Though he secured favorable rulings at the tribunal and appellate court, the Supreme Court ultimately upheld Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s victory.
Reacting to the development, PDP National Executive Committee member Diran Odeyemi told Punch that Yilwatda’s appointment casts a long shadow over INEC’s perceived impartiality.
“This appointment exposes the true identity of Prof. Yilwatda,” Odeyemi said. “His deep ties to the APC raise serious doubts about his neutrality during his time at INEC and now further call into question the commission’s independence. With this move, can we still trust that INEC is truly apolitical? Or should we now presume that future election outcomes are pre-written?”
Meanwhile, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) adopted a more nuanced position. Its National Publicity Secretary, Wale Egbeola-Martins, acknowledged the public’s concerns but urged a broader focus on overhauling Nigeria’s electoral legal framework.
“While the reservations about Yilwatda’s appointment are understandable, we at YPP believe the priority should be comprehensive electoral reform,” Egbeola-Martins said. “The integrity of our democracy must rest not on personalities but on solid, enforceable, and transparent electoral laws.”
He added, “Once our electoral processes are institutionally protected, the fear of manipulation—real or perceived—will fade. It’s time we focused on building a resilient system that inspires confidence, no matter who holds what position.”

Betrayal Exposed? Faction Demands Police Probe Into Fraudulent Leadership Claims Sent To INEC!.
The legal firm Ogbeide Associates, representing a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, requesting a formal investigation into PDP secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Key aspects of the petition include:
-
Allegations of False Representation: The petition challenges a November 3, 2025, letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which falsely claimed that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had replaced acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum with Mohammed.
-
Contradictory NWC Records: Petitioners assert that the NWC’s November 1, 2025, emergency meeting actually resulted in the suspension of Anyanwu and three other officers due to alleged anti-party activities, and no record exists to support the claim that Damagum was suspended or Mohammed appointed.
-
Legal Precedents: The lawyers referenced an October 10, 2024, Federal High Court judgment that recognizes Damagum as the acting national chairman and prohibits INEC from accepting documents without his signature. Furthermore, they noted that the Court of Appeal upheld the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu on March 9, 2026.
-
Call for Institutional Review: The petitioners have requested that the IGP investigate how INEC processed the contested November 3 letter despite being aware of the existing court orders and the NWC’s official resolutions.
-
Stated Objective: Counsel for the petitioner emphasized that the action is intended to address the integrity of public institutions and prevent the use of misleading internal party documentation, noting their readiness to provide supporting court judgments and party records to the police.
