They Traded Our Tomorrow!’ – Okechukwu Blisters ADC Leadership in Scathing Attack

Published

A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has accused the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of mortgaging Nigeria’s future through what he described as a shady privatisation process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

His remarks come in response to ADC’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which the party recently accused of fiscal recklessness following the National Assembly’s approval of a £21 billion foreign loan request. The ADC claimed the borrowing spree would push Nigeria’s public debt beyond ₦200 trillion by year-end without commensurate infrastructure or economic revival.

Reacting to the allegations during a media briefing in Enugu on Monday, Okechukwu dismissed ADC’s concerns as hypocritical, arguing that the party had already done significant damage to the country during its own time in power.

“My honest view is that the ADC leadership are the real vandals who mortgaged both Nigeria’s present and future through an opaque and poorly executed privatisation programme,” he said.

Okechukwu alleged that the sale of public assets, particularly in the power sector, crippled the economy and plunged millions into darkness. “Electricity is the backbone of economic growth, yet Nigerians have suffered sleepless nights ever since ADC-era officials auctioned off NEPA, PHCN, and the Mambilla project under various conspiracy theories.”

He challenged the ADC to make public the House of Representatives’ 2009 report—popularly known as the Ndudi Elumelu Report—which investigated the alleged $16 billion mismanagement in the electricity sector under their watch.

“Just as they vandalised NEPA, PHCN, and Mambilla—our economic foundation—they also destroyed the PDP’s internal unity by hijacking the zoning convention in 2023, before fleeing to the ADC for political cover,” he added.

On the current debt concerns raised by the ADC, Okechukwu advised the Tinubu administration to avoid loans for recurrent spending and instead focus borrowing on critical infrastructure that can spur manufacturing and economic productivity.

Rather than commit $3 billion to rehabilitate the narrow-gauge Eastern Corridor Railway, Okechukwu recommended sourcing a larger amount to build a standard-gauge line and a deep seaport in the Niger Delta.

“We must avoid borrowing for recurrent expenses. What we need is full implementation of the Oronsaye Report and aggressive cost-cutting. That said, I would fully support President Tinubu borrowing up to $50 billion to completely overhaul the electricity value chain—because power remains the foundation of Nigeria’s economic resurgence,” he concluded.
