Super Falcons Light the Way—Gusau Urges Eagles to Follow Their Lead to World Cup Glory!

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has emphasized that the Super Falcons’ dramatic comeback win over Morocco in the 2024 WAFCON final should serve as a powerful rallying cry for the Super Eagles as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a thrilling encounter on Saturday night, July 26, at the Stade Olympique in Rabat, the Nigerian women’s team overturned a 2-0 first-half deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 and secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

Gusau described the Falcons’ performance as not only historic but symbolic of Nigeria’s unyielding spirit in football.

“I’m extremely proud of our girls. They rose from what many would consider a hopeless situation and fought their way to victory. It was an exceptional display of resilience, patriotism, and the trademark Nigerian fighting spirit,” Gusau told journalists in Morocco.

The Falcons concluded the tournament with an impressive record, scoring 14 goals and conceding only three—an emphatic response to their disappointing showing in the 2022 edition. Gusau praised the team’s technical crew, captain, and players for orchestrating a remarkable turnaround.

“Credit goes to the coaching team, the captain, and every single player. They delivered a compelling story of redemption. Now that we’ve reasserted our dominance in Africa, our next target should be global success at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” he said.

Gusau noted that beyond the title, the Falcons’ triumph carries a deeper message for Nigerian football—especially for the Super Eagles, who face mounting pressure in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

“This victory and the spirit behind it can positively influence the Super Eagles in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers,” he said. “We still have four matches to turn things around. Watching the Falcons tonight reminded us of an age-old truth in sports and life: it’s never over until it’s over.”

The Super Eagles, currently underperforming in their qualification group, are scheduled to host Rwanda and then travel to South Africa when the campaign resumes in September. With morale among players and fans running low, Gusau believes the Falcons’ grit and comeback spirit offer a timely lesson.

“This win proves that with belief and determination, even the bleakest situation can be reversed. The Eagles must draw strength from this and fight for Nigeria,” he added.
