No Sacred Cows!’ Kano Launches Probe Into Commissioner’s Alleged Bail Deal With Drug Lord
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has ordered a full-scale probe into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in the controversial bail of an alleged drug baron, Sulaiman Wawu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The governor’s directive followed widespread public outrage after reports surfaced that the commissioner’s name appeared in official documents reportedly used to secure the suspect’s release.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the state government vowed to handle the matter with utmost seriousness, stressing that no individual would be shielded if found to have undermined the fight against drug-related crimes.
“To ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry,” the statement read, “Governor Yusuf has set up a special investigative committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions.”
The committee is chaired by Aminu Hussain, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, and includes Hamza Haladu, Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (retd.), Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota (Secretary). The panel has been directed to commence work immediately and submit its findings without delay.
While inaugurating the committee, Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over possible abuses of public office by political appointees and reiterated his administration’s uncompromising stance on drug abuse and related social vices.
“Our administration will not tolerate any act that compromises the safety and wellbeing of our citizens,” the statement added. “We remain fully committed to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, and anyone found culpable—regardless of their status—will face the full weight of the law.”
As of press time, Commissioner Namadi had yet to issue an official response. However, the decision to launch the probe underscores the state government’s determination to uphold public trust and ensure transparency in governance.
Sulaiman Wawu, the suspect at the centre of the controversy, was reportedly arrested for narcotics-related offences, but his sudden release—allegedly aided by political interference—has triggered widespread concern across Kano.
The investigation comes amid Governor Yusuf’s intensified campaign against drug abuse and criminality, which he has consistently described as a grave threat to the security and future of Kano State

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
