Breaking: Abuja Approves Urgent Rescue Plan for Citizens Trapped in Central African Republic

The Federal Government has launched a coordinated effort to rescue and repatriate a group of Nigerian workers stranded in the Central African Republic.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This move follows a viral video showing the distressed workers abandoned in Bambari, a town located about 850 kilometers from the capital, Bangui.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that officials of the Nigerian Mission in Bangui have established contact with the affected nationals.

According to the statement, signed by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the embassy is working closely with local authorities to guarantee the workers’ safety, welfare, and prompt evacuation.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply concerned about the welfare of Nigerian workers currently stranded in the Central African Republic. The video of the stranded Nigerians in Bambari, abandoned by their employers and facilitators, has been circulating widely on social media.

“Our officials in Bangui have contacted the affected persons and are actively engaging with relevant authorities to secure their protection and arrange their swift repatriation,” the statement read.

The ministry revealed that the workers’ passports have been recovered and that a vehicle had been dispatched to evacuate them from Bambari to Bangui. “They are expected to arrive in the capital under military escort on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Discussions are ongoing with the company involved to ensure their accommodation and welfare in Bangui ahead of their return to Nigeria,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Nigerians abroad, the Federal Government advised citizens seeking work opportunities overseas to conduct thorough checks on prospective employers and ensure their travel documents are properly processed.

“The Federal Government remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerians everywhere in the world,” the statement emphasized. “We urge all Nigerians traveling abroad for employment to verify the authenticity of their employers and to register with the nearest Nigerian mission to avoid difficulties in the event of a consular emergency.”

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
