Amid Speculations, Tinubu’s Spokesperson Declares: ‘Our President Is in Great Shape’

Bwala made the remark in an interview with DW Africa, where he also defended the wave of mid‑term endorsements Tinubu has received, describing it as a long‑standing tradition within the All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than a mere political stunt.
“The President of Nigeria, physically, is fitter than most presidents in advanced countries,” Bwala declared when asked about ongoing concerns over Tinubu’s health and overseas medical visits.
According to him, the endorsements were the outcome of the APC’s internal mid‑term review process.
“It’s a procedure within our party that after every mid‑term we conduct an assessment. It’s not about President Tinubu alone — whoever occupies the office is evaluated on performance before we decide whether to back them for continuity,” he explained.
Bwala maintained that Tinubu “passed the assessment with distinction,” adding:
“We have measured his achievements and are convinced he has performed wonderfully well. That’s why we are absolutely confident heading toward 2027.”
He highlighted several achievements of the Tinubu administration, pointing first to the introduction of local government autonomy as a milestone in deepening democratic governance.
“Autonomy gives local government chairmen or administrators access to enormous resources,” he said, noting that many states are now able to recruit vigilantes, acquire surveillance equipment, and enhance intelligence gathering to boost security.
Bwala also pointed to reforms in healthcare and agriculture.
“We have provided dispensaries offering, for example, free caesarean sections for mothers in distress,” he said, adding that a rice policy introduced by the administration has improved food availability and affordability, especially for low‑income Nigerians.
He further revealed that subsidies have been introduced on certain prescription drugs, making them easier to access at the local level, and noted that nearly 10 million Nigerians have been registered under the national healthcare system since the start of Tinubu’s tenure.
