Secret War on Terror Financing: EFCC, NFIU Target Hidden Networks After Plateau Bust
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) have renewed their resolve to choke off funding channels for terrorists and criminal syndicates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Their renewed commitment follows the dramatic rejection of a ₦13.7 million bribe by troops during an operation in Plateau State.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops of Operation Safe Haven on July 9, 2025, intercepted a bullet‑riddled vehicle along the Jos–Sanga Road and arrested two suspects, who reportedly tried to buy their freedom with ₦13,742,000. The soldiers refused the inducement, seizing weapons, ammunition, the vehicle, and the cash while investigations continue.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, confirmed the interception and praised the troops’ integrity:
“Suspects attempted to induce troops with monetary gratification, but they declined. Two suspects were arrested, weapons and ammunition recovered, alongside a vehicle and ₦13,742,000. Investigations are ongoing, and all items remain in troops’ custody.”
Speaking on the significance of the incident, NFIU spokesperson Sani Tukur told our correspondent that it underscores the agency’s success in disrupting terror financing networks:
“All financial institutions are cooperating with us. When you hear reports like this, it means multiple access points to funds have already been blocked. I can assure you that what is being blocked far exceeds the sums you’re hearing about.”
Tukur explained that the NFIU constantly develops new monitoring models to stay ahead of financial crime patterns:
“We are evolving typologies to flag and block suspicious transactions, ensuring terrorists and other criminals are denied the funds they need.”
Similarly, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale highlighted the commission’s legal mandate under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022:
“Any account flagged in connection with terrorism financing is immediately frozen with a ‘Post No Debit’ order. From the anti‑corruption corridor, we are ensuring that any funds suspected or linked to terrorism are queried and blocked. We are fully engaged in cutting off terror financing in Nigeria.”
The agencies reaffirmed that their efforts are ongoing and will intensify to ensure that no illicit funds fuel insecurity in the country.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
