Massive Turnout as EU, Civil Society Group Enlighten Anambra Women on Democracy

The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) has trained at least 30 women drawn from different communities across Anambra State on voter education, with the goal of tackling voter apathy and other electoral challenges ahead of the August 16 senatorial by‑election and the November 8 governorship election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The three‑day “Train the Trainers on Voter Education” workshop, funded by the European Union, kicked off on Thursday in Awka. Each participant is expected to step down the training by mobilising and educating 50 other women within their respective communities and local government areas.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines, NWTF Programme Officer Malliya Manu said the initiative was designed to deepen understanding of electoral processes and drive greater women’s participation in future polls.

“The aim is to equip these participants with the knowledge and tools to conduct voter education sessions at the grassroots. If rural women are properly informed, we can significantly reduce issues like invalid votes and vote buying,” Manu explained.

She noted that voter education is essential for strengthening democracy, promoting peaceful elections, and encouraging acceptance of results.

“This programme mobilises grassroots women, civil society groups, and faith‑based organisations. Each participant will step down voter education in their communities so more women can get involved in upcoming elections. It’s a multiplier effect to curb voter apathy,” she added.

According to Manu, the 30 participants were jointly selected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) — 20 nominated by INEC and 10 by SIDEC — all of them women with strong influence and interest in electoral matters.

One of the lead facilitators, Venezia Gregory, highlighted that the training covers how to host local voter education forums and tackle obstacles such as double registration, limited resources, transportation barriers, and a shortage of trained educators.

“Civic and voter education is critical to ensuring every eligible Nigerian understands their rights and responsibilities. It must be inclusive — targeting women, men, and persons with disabilities — and must emphasise voting procedures and the value of participatory governance,” Gregory said.

Also addressing the attendees, Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Agwu urged women to uphold integrity and resist vote buying. She revealed that out of the 193,170 newly registered voters in the state’s latest exercise, more than 150,000 were women, a development she described as encouraging.

Agwu praised the organisers and charged participants to remain committed and active in politics. The workshop drew key stakeholders, including representatives from INEC and various civil society organisations.

WILL HE STAY OR WILL HE GO? Shettima On Edge As Tinubu Keeps 2027 Running Mate Decision Under Lock And Key!.

Published

on

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has officially clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general election. With his renomination secured, intense political speculation has shifted toward the fate of his running mate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Unlike the fiercely contested 2022 APC primaries—where Tinubu faced formidable internal challenges from former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi—observers described this latest primary as a remarkably smooth path to victory for the incumbent president.

With the ticket finalized, all eyes are now on Aso Rock to see whether Tinubu will retain Vice President Kashim Shettima or shake up the ticket for the upcoming campaign.

The Evolution of the Same-Faith Ticket Debate

Tinubu’s original 2022 selection of Shettima sparked massive national controversy due to both men practicing Islam. At the time, critics aggressively argued that a Muslim-Muslim ticket ignored Nigeria’s delicate religious balance, with some opposition factions raising concerns over a perceived sectarian agenda.

Heading into 2027, however, that religious pushback has significantly cooled. Political analysts attribute this shift largely to the visible role of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu. As an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), her prominent position has effectively neutralized much of the previous criticism surrounding the administration’s religious diversity.

Why Shettima Remains the Frontrunner

Political analysts point to several critical factors that make unseating the Vice President highly unlikely:

  • Unwavering Loyalty: Insiders describe Shettima as one of the most fiercely loyal deputies in Nigeria’s modern democratic history. He has consistently championed, defended, and articulated the policies of the Tinubu administration, completely avoiding the public friction or backstabbing that has historically plagued Nigerian presidencies.

  • Northern Political Influence: As a former Governor of Borno State, Shettima wields massive electoral weight across the North. Dropping him would pose an immense strategic risk for Tinubu in a region that remains vital for securing a national majority.

  • The First Lady Alliance: A strong bond exists behind the scenes between First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the Vice President’s wife, Hajia Nana Shettima. Nana Shettima serves as the national vice-chairman of the First Lady’s flagship “Renewed Hope Initiative,” frequently representing her at major national outreach programs.

The Verdict

While quiet horse-trading and behind-the-scenes maneuvering continue among APC power brokers, political strategists believe it would be a major shock if Tinubu replaces a loyal, politically entrenched deputy. Nevertheless, in the high-stakes arena of Nigerian politics, analysts warn that unexpected last-minute shifts can never be entirely ruled out.

President Bola Tinubu achieved absolute dominance in the Ebonyi State All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, pulling a clean sweep of all 207,579 valid votes cast across the state. His challenger, Stanley Osifo, was completely shut out, failing to secure a single vote across the 171 wards and 13 local government areas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Announcing the results in Abakaliki, Governor Francis Nwifuru—who acted as the State Collation Officer—revealed that out of the party’s 215,490 total members in Ebonyi, 207,579 turned out for accreditation and voting. He praised the exercise as transparent, peaceful, and an authentic reflection of the people’s will. Breakdown of the landslide shows Tinubu netting major numbers including 25,453 in Ezza North, 19,341 in Ikwo, and 17,501 in Izzi.

Reacting to the massive turnout at his Umunaga Ward in Uburu, Minister of Works David Umahi declared that Ebonyi is strictly an APC stronghold with zero opposition presence.

Umahi dropped a major talking point by asserting that President Tinubu’s administration has finally integrated the South-East into mainstream national governance through critical infrastructure and top-tier appointments.

“Bola Tinubu is the Biafra we have been looking for,” Umahi stated boldly. “I laugh when people talk about the hardship caused by the reforms. Nobody has been able to say where Nigeria would have been without them.” He expressed absolute confidence that Tinubu’s reform agenda would completely crush Nigeria’s security challenges within the next five years if handed a second term in 2027.

2027 Primaries: Tinubu Secures Landslide Victory in Ebonyi APC Presidential Primary

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday recorded a comprehensive victory in the Ebonyi State APC presidential primary election, claiming all 207,579 valid votes. His opponent, Stanley Osifo, finished the exercise with zero votes across the state’s 13 local government areas.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, serving as the State Collation Officer, certified the data in Abakaliki. He noted that 207,579 accredited members participated out of a total state registration of 215,490. Nwifuru commended the party faithful for maintaining orderliness and transparency throughout the 171 wards. Significant vote pools for the President came from Ezza North (25,453), Ikwo (19,341), and Ishielu (19,160).

Speaking from Ohaozara Local Government Area, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, stated that the outcome reinforces Ebonyi’s position as an undivided APC state.

Umahi argued that the Tinubu administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to the South-East region through key federal appointments and infrastructure development.
