Massive Bombshell: Accepting VP Role Will End Obi’s Political Relevance – Ex‑Insider

Published

on

A former Special Adviser on Public Affairs to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Katchy Ononuju, has warned that accepting a Vice‑Presidential slot—whether under former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other politician—would effectively end Obi’s political relevance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking in an interview with Daily Post, Ononuju argued that such a move would alienate Obi from the youth movement that powered his 2023 campaign.

According to him, Obi’s rise was driven by the trust and aspirations of millions of young Nigerians who saw him as the face of a new political order. Accepting a vice‑presidential role, he warned, would be widely seen as a betrayal of that trust.

Ononuju said:

“We have given them a simple condition: accept zoning. We are not fighting for today; we are fighting for the future. I am telling you openly why I started the youth movement. I spoke to Omoba and Doyin Okupe and said, ‘Let us push for a southern presidential campaign. Even if it doesn’t work, history will remember our effort.’ I’m grateful to Okupe for agreeing, and we began approaching candidates.

Peter Obi initially refused. He told us he would never go against Atiku. But I reached out to people like Okwadike. I even organised a meeting at Nnabuenyi’s house. People asked me, ‘Katchy, what are you doing? Has Peter Obi told you he will run?’ He told me he was loyal to Atiku. I said, ‘Don’t worry, I’m working on it.’ Eventually, Peter agreed to run.”

Ononuju stressed that Obi must not abandon the youth base that defines his political identity:

“The moment Obi becomes Vice President to anybody, the youths will walk away, and I don’t want this creation to die. As a political brand, Peter Obi will die if he abandons the youths. They will not accept it.

In every administration, the voice of the Vice President is muted. If he speaks up, he’s degraded. Look at Osinbajo, look at Shettima, look at Jonathan, look at Obasanjo and Atiku. Once they weaken you, it’s almost impossible to recover. As a student and teacher of history, I know this for sure: after you’ve been reduced to a Vice President, you rarely recover.”

Ononuju’s comments underscore a growing sentiment within Obi’s support base that taking up a deputy role would undermine his image as a symbol of change and diminish his long‑term political prospects.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has described moves to prosecute former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over alleged culpable homicide as an attempt to reopen the 2018 Offa robbery tragedy for political purposes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement on Friday, the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Adewara, said the development is a disturbing and dangerous politicisation of a case they claim has already been addressed through judicial processes.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
