Game Changer! NYSC Tells Employers to Shoulder Corps Members’ Transport, Housing Costs!”
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged employers of corps members to play a more active role in supporting them by either personally picking them up from orientation camps or reimbursing their transport costs if they fail to do so.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made the appeal on Thursday in Bauchi during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop. He stressed that providing decent accommodation—or paying an allowance in lieu of accommodation—would greatly encourage corps members to deliver better services.
Speaking through Agatha Banki, Director of the Northeast Area Office 1, Nafiu explained that the annual workshop serves as a strategic platform for the NYSC and employers to exchange ideas, address grey areas, and build stronger relationships that benefit both the scheme and the labour market.
“I am convinced that the 2025 workshop will not be any different,” he said, highlighting employers’ key responsibilities, including provision of accommodation, transportation support, healthcare access comparable to that of regular staff, and a safe, conducive work environment.
The DG further charged participants to propose practical solutions that would deepen collaboration between the NYSC and corps employers, enhance communication, and resolve lingering administrative challenges.
“You must collectively hammer out solutions that will strengthen our partnership and contribute to national development,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Bauchi State NYSC Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to fostering mutual growth through meaningful partnerships.
“Strengthening our collaboration is not just desirable; it is necessary for driving empowerment, innovation, and social responsibility. This workshop will allow us to share experiences and best practices to make the NYSC more effective in serving corps members and the broader labour market,” Kufre added.
PUNCH Online reports that this year’s workshop is themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers’ Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefit.”
