Fr. Oluoma Fires Back at Pulpit Prophets: ‘Stop Scaring People With Stolen Destiny Lies’”

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Fr. Oluoma argued that the notion stems from gullibility among some Christians who attribute personal setbacks and life challenges to spiritual theft.
He pointed to the biblical account of Esau and Jacob—where Esau lost his birthright and paternal blessing to his younger brother Jacob—as a passage often misinterpreted by those promoting the “stolen destiny” narrative.
“If Esau lived in our time and went to one of these so‑called ‘powerful prophets,’ he would have been diagnosed with a ‘stolen destiny’ and prescribed endless fasts, prayers, deliverance sessions, and seed‑sowing rituals,” he wrote.
The cleric noted that despite Esau’s loss, Scripture shows he still prospered materially. He highlighted that in Genesis 32, Esau met Jacob with 400 men, a testament to his wealth and influence. In Genesis 33, Esau even declined Jacob’s gifts, saying, “I have plenty; keep what is yours.”
Fr. Oluoma stressed that God’s plans are not hindered by human deception or mistakes and cautioned believers against equating destiny solely with material success.
“What Jacob took from Esau was their father’s blessing—not God’s purpose. God is not like Isaac, who grew old, blind, and was deceived over a bowl of pepper soup,” he explained.
He concluded by warning that those promoting the concept of stolen destinies may, in fact, be diverting people from their true potential:
“In reality, if there is anything like a stolen destiny, it is those who convinced you that your destiny was stolen who are actually stealing your focus and clarity.”
