Massive Cabinet Overhaul! Enugu Governor Names New Head of Service and Six Commissioners

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, on Wednesday carried out a sweeping cabinet reshuffle, swearing in a new Head of Service and six commissioners, while also redeploying three others to fresh portfolios.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The swearing‑in ceremony, held at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Enugu, featured the formal appointment of Dr. Godwin Anigbo as the new Head of Service.

The newly appointed commissioners and their portfolios are:

  • Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh – Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure

  • Prof. Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli – Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication

  • Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna – Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources

  • Dr. Samuel Ogbu‑Nwobodo – Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry

  • Prof. George Ugwu – Commissioner for Health

  • Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. – Commissioner for Water Resources

In addition, three existing commissioners were reassigned:

  • Dr. Felix Nnamani now heads the Ministry of Labour and Employment,

  • Dr. Malachy Agbo moves to Information,

  • Engr. Gerald Otiji takes charge of Housing.

The oath of office was administered by Chizoba Ogbodo on behalf of the Ministry of Justice.

Addressing the appointees, Governor Mbah urged them to “hit the ground running,” stressing that his administration has no room for a honeymoon period. He noted that in just two years, his government had created high expectations across Enugu State and beyond, and those standards must not drop.

“Here in Enugu, we have stirred high expectations among our people. Every day feels like we are presenting a scorecard,” Mbah said. “You must hit the ground running; there will be no honeymoon. We set clear targets and measurable indicators, and we will hold you accountable to them.”

The governor also emphasized teamwork and collaboration:

“We do not encourage working in silos. Your colleagues are not rivals; they should complement your efforts. Our modest accomplishments so far are not the result of a single champion but of team effort.”

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Dr. Ogbu‑Nwobodo expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity, pledging loyalty and dedication:

“Since you chose to entrust us with this sacred duty as you make history every day, we will keep faith with our oath of office. We will be loyal, dedicated, and committed to contributing to the nationally acknowledged success your government has become.”

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Chief of Staff Mr. Victor Udeh, several commissioners, senior government officials, and spouses of the appointees.

  • Friday, August 7, 2026: After a morning departure from his residence, a requiem mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oba-Ile. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at 12:45 p.m. at Labaluyegbe Villa, followed by a reception at Aderonmu Grammar School Field.

The Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House remembered him as a beloved family man, traditional leader, and an inspiration to generations of theatre practitioners. His passing is regarded as the end of an era for the Nigerian theatre community, where he served as an Associate Professor of Drama and a long-standing mentor.
