The capacity‑building initiative, organised by the Lagos State Safety Commission in partnership with Help Station, commenced on Tuesday in Lagos and brought together industry professionals, health experts, and regulatory officers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola—represented by Olubunmi Jegede, Head of Events and Hospitality at the commission—praised participants for their turnout and urged them to take full advantage of the sessions.
She underscored the vital role of the events and hospitality industries in driving economic growth and safeguarding public well‑being, stressing that continuous training is essential to uphold food safety standards and strengthen emergency readiness.
“Our collective health is the bedrock of economic productivity. The Lagos State Government remains committed to fostering a healthy, safe environment for all.
This training is part of that commitment—aimed at preventing foodborne diseases and enhancing on‑the‑ground emergency response,” Jegede said.
She encouraged participants to tap into the facilitators’ expertise, adding that the initiative aligns with the state’s broader agenda for public safety and sustainable tourism.
In his keynote address, Dr. Deji Faborode, Chief Executive Officer of Help Station, commended the state government for prioritising safety and health education in critical sectors of the economy.
“Food safety is non‑negotiable. We are proud to partner with a government that recognises that safety is everyone’s business. This programme provides practical knowledge that can save lives and build a healthier society,” Dr. Faborode said.
Dr. Yewande Alebiosu, Chief Operating Officer of Help Station, highlighted the importance of individual preparedness during emergencies, advocating broader public awareness on basic first‑aid and emergency techniques.
“Everyone should know how to respond when an emergency strikes, especially before professional help arrives. This training empowers frontline workers and citizens to act quickly and decisively,” she noted.
One of the facilitators, Ms. Dorothy Nzekwe, led a hands‑on session on emergency medical procedures, covering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and managing common medical emergencies.
