Unthinkable Crime: Court Sends Baby Molester to Jail for 21 Years in Nasarawa

Yaro was arrested by operatives of the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in May 2020 over the shocking crime, which left the infant badly injured. The case, filed as NSD/LF191c/2020, was prosecuted by the Nasarawa State Government.
Delivering judgment on Monday in Lafia, Justice Aisha Mohammed Bashir, the Chief Judge of the state, condemned the act as “barbaric and a direct assault on society’s moral conscience.” She handed Yaro a 21‑year prison term, stressing that the sentence would serve as a strong deterrent to others who might contemplate such heinous acts.
Speaking on Tuesday, Enoch Ali Maku, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol and Media to the Chief Judge, confirmed to our correspondent that Yaro had been on trial for five years. He said the court, after reviewing the evidence, was convinced beyond doubt that Yaro indeed raped the three‑month‑old baby.
“The judgment was delivered on July 21, 2025. The Chief Judge herself confirmed that he actually committed the crime. The only fitting remedy was imprisonment, so he was sentenced to 21 years,” Maku explained.
He added that Yaro has the right to appeal within 30 days if dissatisfied with the ruling, though such appeals are rare in cases proven beyond reasonable doubt. “He may appeal if he chooses, but this is a capital offense, and the evidence was overwhelming,” Maku said
