Governor Adeleke’s PDP Loyalty Unshaken as Defection Drama Collapses”
Amid mounting speculation over a possible defection, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is reportedly exploring moves to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Multiple party insiders from both the PDP and APC told Vanguard that Adeleke has been in discreet talks with key APC figures in Abuja, fueling tension within both camps ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
The speculation intensified after two Osun PDP senators—Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central)—recently defected to the APC, prompting suggestions that their move might be part of Adeleke’s larger plan.
However, an APC source at the party’s national secretariat dismissed such links, stressing that the senators acted independently:
“The defection of Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi has nothing to do with Governor Adeleke. They negotiated their own paths. Adeleke’s camp did not carry them along,” the source clarified.
Despite ongoing discussions in Abuja, insiders say the talks have stalled due to strong resistance from the Osun APC faction loyal to former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
A PDP insider revealed:
“The governor is doing his part to move the conversation forward. His camp is engaging with the Abuja APC camp, but Oyetola’s men are dragging their feet.”
According to the source, Adeleke is reportedly demanding an automatic APC governorship ticket in exchange for backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re‑election bid.
Reacting to the rumours, Remi Omowaiye, a prominent APC chieftain in Osun, criticised Adeleke for allegedly bypassing the state party leadership:
“As far as I’m concerned, the governor’s defection talk is just social media chatter. If he truly wants to join, there are proper channels to follow.
Adegboyega Oyetola remains the leader of the APC in Osun, and I’m not aware that Adeleke has reached out to him. You can’t join a party through some governors elsewhere.”
Omowaiye further argued that Adeleke’s record in office would be a hard sell to APC supporters:
“He has baggage—he sacked teachers and health workers without replacements, he’s building substandard infrastructure, and we’ve asked for the bridge designs to no avail. How do we justify such a move to the people?”
With state-level negotiations stalled, insiders say only the intervention of the APC’s national leadership—or President Tinubu himself—can reignite the talks:
“For now, only the President and Oyetola can give the green light. Without that, the governor may remain in the PDP as he heads into the 2026 governorship election,” an APC source disclosed.
