Abba Moro Fires Back: Good Riddance to Defectors, PDP Will Survive Without Atiku!”
Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has firmly disassociated himself from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition recently embraced by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reaffirming his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite internal turbulence and high‑profile defections, Moro said he has no intention of joining what he termed a “coalition of convenience.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, the Benue South senator dismissed the move by Atiku and others as “politics of gang‑ups,” stressing:
“I don’t subscribe to politics of gang‑ups and all these shenanigans. I am comfortable in the PDP and have no reason to leave.”
Those Who Left Have Made Their Choice
Despite the PDP’s ongoing challenges, Moro said he is committed to staying and helping rebuild the party.
“In a democracy, when things go wrong, there are two options: either we work together to fix the system or we move to another platform to try to wrest power from the ruling party.
Those who have gone to the ADC have chosen the latter option—but I am not joining them. I can assure you that where I am is getting stronger,” he said.
Why I Didn’t Follow Atiku and Mark
Asked why he refused to align with Atiku and Mark despite their long political ties, Moro replied bluntly:
“The reality on the ground is that I’m not following. I am comfortable in the PDP and I have no reason to leave the party now or in the near future.”
He insisted that the PDP still has capable leaders willing to remain and resolve its internal issues:
“No matter what people say about the crisis and the division in PDP, we and other leaders will stay behind and fix it. Those who left have their reasons. Don’t forget we still have two former Senate Presidents and many ex‑governors who remain in the PDP. Sometimes, some of these exits are good riddance to bad rubbish because some of them may have contributed to the crisis we have today.”
We Saw Atiku’s Exit Coming
While admitting he was initially surprised, Moro said many party insiders already sensed Atiku’s departure:
“I never thought that Atiku would leave PDP. But politics is the art of the possible. For quite some time, we knew Atiku was on his way out. He stopped attending NEC, BoT, caucus and other meetings. Anyone actively involved in PDP affairs would have noticed.”
Moro expressed confidence that the PDP remains resilient despite defections:
“The PDP is not about any individual. It is a national institution with deep roots across Nigeria. People will come and go, but the party will survive.”
