Amid mounting tension over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) zoning formula ahead of the 2027 elections, party stalwart and former Board of Trustees Chairman, Bode George, has disclosed that discreet moves are underway to produce a southern presidential candidate for the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Punch, George revealed that the PDP is quietly working to build consensus around credible southern aspirants capable of taking on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

According to George, “That process of getting a southerner as presidential flagbearer of the party is on. In politics, there is no shutdown. We are going for a meeting this week — a make‑or‑break meeting if you like.”

While George and other southern leaders are pushing for the ticket to be zoned southward, some members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) remain unconvinced, insisting that the party’s focus should be on electability and internal cohesion rather than regional considerations.

George admitted there are disagreements but maintained that sensitive consultations are ongoing and timing is crucial.
“Arrangements are going on already, and there are quite some respectable, responsible people with good character, tested and proven. But it is too early to start throwing names up. If you do that now, you are looking for trouble,” he said.

The push for a southern candidate comes at a time when the PDP is navigating internal turbulence triggered by Atiku Abubakar’s exit and the rise of a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
