Defection Storm: Abba Moro Rejects Atiku, Mark’s ADC Move, Vows Loyalty to PDP
Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has made it clear that he will not follow former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, stated this on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“I don’t subscribe to politics of gang‑ups and all these shenanigans. I am comfortable in the PDP and have no reason to leave,” he said, stressing that despite the party’s internal challenges, he remains committed to rebuilding it from within.
The former minister explained that in a democracy, there are two choices when things go wrong: work with others to engage the ruling party constructively and fix the system, or move to another platform to wrest power.
“Those who have gone to the ADC have chosen the latter option. How far they can go is a matter of conjecture. But I am not joining them. I can assure you that where I am is also getting stronger, and I am ready to provide resistance,” Moro added.
Asked why he declined to follow Atiku and Mark despite their long-standing political ties, Moro replied, “The reality is that I’m not following. I’m comfortable in the PDP and have no reason to leave now or in the near future. No matter what people say about the crisis in the PDP, we and other leaders will remain and fix it. Those who left have their reasons. In fact, some of them may have contributed to the crisis we are trying to solve.”
On whether Atiku’s defection caught him off guard, Moro said it did not.
“I never thought Atiku would leave the PDP, but politics is the art of the possible. For quite some time, those of us in the PDP knew he was on his way out. He has not been attending PDP functions—NEC, BoT, Caucus, and other meetings—for months,” he explained.
Moro concluded by reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, expressing confidence that the party still has many prominent leaders, including two former Senate Presidents and several ex-governors, who are committed to its future.
