Royal Farewell: Saudi Prince Who Defied Death in Coma for 20 Years Is Gone”
Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, fondly and famously known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36 after spending more than two decades in a coma following a devastating car accident in London.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The heartbreaking announcement was made by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, in an emotional statement shared on earlier today, July 19.
“With hearts surrendered to Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. May Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today,” the grieving father wrote.
Prince Al Waleed slipped into a coma at just 15 years old after suffering severe brain trauma and internal bleeding during the accident while studying as a military cadet in the United Kingdom.
Despite bleak medical prognoses, his family held unwavering faith and refused to withdraw life support, keeping a steadfast vigil by his side for more than 20 years.
In 2020, a glimmer of hope briefly swept across the kingdom when a video emerged showing the prince seemingly responding to a voice by slightly moving his fingers—a touching sign of awareness that fueled renewed prayers for his recovery.
The clip, shared by Princess Noura bint Talal Al Saud, captured a tender moment at his bedside as a woman softly urged, “Habibi, hello. Hello, hello, let me see,” prompting a faint movement of his hand—his first and only sign of consciousness in years.
Tragically, that fragile spark never developed into full recovery.
Funeral prayers for the late prince will be held on Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. A separate women’s prayer service is scheduled at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital after Dhuhr prayers. A three‑day mourning period has been declared, extending until Tuesday.
