We Know Where to Look!’ – OBIdient Movement Sounds Alarm on Okpebholo’s Alleged Threats”
The OBIdient Movement has called on Nigerians and the international community to take seriously what it described as the dangerous utterances recently made by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, against Labour Party leader Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
reports that Governor Okpebholo, while officially receiving Hon. Marcus Onobun—the last opposition federal lawmaker from Edo—into the ruling party, warned that Peter Obi should not visit the state without prior security clearance.
Reacting in a statement issued on Friday, July 18, 2025, the Movement’s Director of Strategic Communications, Nana Kazaure, condemned the governor’s comment as unconstitutional, stressing that it violates the fundamental right to freedom of movement as guaranteed by Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution.
The OBIdient Movement noted that Okpebholo’s remarks are part of a troubling pattern, recalling a similar threat previously issued by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia when Obi embarked on a humanitarian mission.
Supporters of the former Anambra State governor warned that if anything should happen to Peter Obi, both Okpebholo and Alia must be held accountable, given their positions as chief security officers of their respective states.
The statement reads in part:
“The Obidient Movement has observed with deep concern a circulating video in which the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, allegedly warns His Excellency Peter Obi never to set foot in Edo State again without first notifying him.
For the avoidance of doubt, Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to move freely and reside in any part of the country. It is therefore alarming and indefensible for Governor Okpebholo to threaten or attempt to restrict this fundamental right.
Even more disturbing is the pattern of such utterances. We recall a similar threat issued by the Governor of Benue State against Mr. Obi—threats made even as he was on missions of goodwill and humanitarian support to citizens abandoned by those very governments now issuing these warnings.
We alert Nigerians and the international community that these threats must not be ignored. Should anything untoward happen to His Excellency Peter Obi, Nigerians know where to look. These governors are the chief security officers of their states, and their words carry weight beyond mere rhetoric.
We therefore urge all well-meaning Nigerians to rise against this slide into political intolerance and recklessness. Nigeria belongs to us all, and no individual—no matter how highly placed—has the right to fan the embers of division or incite violence through careless and unlawful statements.”
