A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies valued at ₦653 million to the Federal Government following the conviction of one Salisu Ahmad, who failed to declare the funds on arrival in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the ruling after Ahmad pleaded guilty to a one‑count charge of non‑declaration of monetary instruments filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The undeclared cash—comprising $420,900, £5,825, CFA3,946,500, and Cameroonian CFA224,000—was discovered hidden in Ahmad’s luggage, wrapped in polythene and cloth, when he landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on July 7, 2025, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Saudi Arabia.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Ahmad told investigators he was transporting the money on behalf of his brother, Auwal Ahmad, based in Saudi Arabia, and was instructed to deliver it to two individuals, Yusuf Adamu and Abdulhamid Rabiu, who were also arrested.

The EFCC charged Ahmad under Sections 3(3) and 3(5) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which require full disclosure of funds exceeding approved limits when entering the country.

“That you, Salisu Ahmad, on or about the 7th of July, 2025, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, failed to declare the sums collectively valued at ₦653,000,000 into Nigeria from Saudi Arabia aboard Ethiopian Air (ET940) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Sections 3(3) and 3(5) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022,” part of the charge read.

Justice Shuaibu subsequently convicted Ahmad based on his guilty plea and ordered that the entire amount be forfeited to the Federal Government, marking yet another EFCC victory in the fight against money laundering.

He expressed confidence that the party would secure a sweeping victory in the 2027 polls, describing its agenda as a plan to reset the country.

Makinde made the prediction after Mohammed was introduced at the gathering and described as an incoming senator.

Speaking at the event, the APM presidential candidate said, “Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He urged Nigerians to listen to the party’s message and support its proposed agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

Makinde also discussed the qualities he believes Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president, arguing that physical energy and the ability to tackle national challenges should take precedence over age.

According to him, the next president must possess the stamina to work long hours and respond effectively to the country’s pressing problems.

He stated, “While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country.”

Makinde further challenged presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, urging voters to consider their capacity to handle the demands of the presidency.

“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” he added.
