The Jigawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS (JISACA) has revealed plans to begin dispensing antiretroviral drugs at primary healthcare centres across the state, in a move aimed at bringing treatment closer to patients and boosting access to life‑saving medication.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Recent statistics show that Nigeria still bears a heavy HIV/AIDS burden, with over two million people living with the disease nationwide. In Jigawa State, about 0.3% of the population is affected, with roughly 5,000 registered patients currently receiving treatment at 14 facilities. However, estimates suggest that as many as 26,000 people in the state could be infected but have yet to access care—underscoring the urgent need for wider reach and awareness.

Speaking to journalists in Dutse on Thursday, JISACA’s manager, Mr. Ibrahim Almajiri, explained that decentralising drug distribution is part of the state’s broader target of eliminating HIV/AIDS by 2030.

“We are planning to start dispensing antiretroviral drugs at primary healthcare centres across the state to make it easier for patients to access their medication,” Almajiri said.

He noted that Jigawa has recorded significant progress in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS, thanks to initiatives that provide psychosocial support, free medication, and nutritional aid to those living with the disease.

“These efforts have also reduced stigma and discrimination,” he added.

To further enhance access, JISACA has already established 17 antiretroviral treatment centres and several HIV testing sites across the 27 local government areas of the state. In addition, the agency has made HIV testing mandatory for intending couples as part of measures to prevent transmission and ensure early treatment for those infected.

Almajiri also highlighted that all HIV‑positive patients in Jigawa are now enrolled in the Dan Modi Healthcare Program, which offers comprehensive care and support.

“This program has been instrumental in improving the health and quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS in Jigawa,” he said, while commending the state government for its unwavering support.

He urged residents to get tested and know their status, stressing that early detection and prompt treatment remain the most effective tools in managing the disease.

Abure Heads To Supreme Court Over Labour Party Crisis.

Published

on

The leadership crisis within the Labour Party has escalated as Julius Abure rejected the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal and announced plans to challenge it at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed Abure’s case and upheld an earlier judgment removing him as the party’s national chairman. The court also affirmed recognition of Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader of the party.

The dispute traces back to a Federal High Court ruling, which relied on a Supreme Court decision that nullified the process that brought Abure into office. The courts maintained that his tenure had ended and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Usman’s leadership.

However, Abure rejected the judgment, insisting that the 2024 party convention that produced him remains valid and supports his claim to leadership.

He has now instructed his legal team to approach the Supreme Court in a bid to overturn the Appeal Court’s decision.

Abure described the ruling as unacceptable to him and his supporters, arguing that it contradicted established legal principles and internal party autonomy.

He maintained that the Labour Party’s 27 March 2024 convention in Nnewi remains valid for four years, claiming the court failed to properly consider it in its decision.

He also faulted the Umuahia meeting that produced a caretaker committee, describing it as unconstitutional under the party’s rules, arguing that only the National Chairman and National Secretary have the authority to convene NEC meetings.

Abure reaffirmed that the judgment would be appealed, stating that his legal team has already been mobilised to take the matter to the Supreme Court for final determination.
