Blood on Gombe Roads: 72 Dead, 171 Crashes in Just Six Months – FRSC Reveals Alarming Stats
The Gombe State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that no fewer than 72 people lost their lives in 171 road crashes involving 1,156 persons across the state between January and June 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sector Commander Kaura disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe.
He explained that 641 people sustained varying degrees of injuries, while 443 escaped unhurt. According to him, the statistics show that 6.23 per cent of those involved in the crashes died, 55.45 per cent suffered injuries, and 38.32 per cent came out without harm.
Kaura further revealed that 234 vehicles were involved in these crashes, out of which 105 were bicycles and tricycles, accounting for 44.87 per cent of the total.
Giving a monthly breakdown, the sector commander said 18 fatalities occurred in January, 12 in February, five in March, 16 in April, five in May, and 16 in June.
He lamented that many drivers in the state disregard traffic rules and fail to maintain the recommended speed limits, which contributes significantly to the accidents.
Kaura advised motorists to always carry out proper checks on their vehicles before embarking on any journey.
“With the rainy season here, drivers must avoid overspeeding because the roads are slippery and dangerous,” he warned. “Ensure your vehicle offers clear visibility and, where possible, reduce night driving for safety.”
