‘She Crossed the Line!’ – Akpabio’s Aide Says Natasha Must Apologise to Senate and Judiciary”
Ken Okolugbo, a communications and strategy consultant to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has asserted that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, cannot return to her legislative duties without following established protocols and issuing a formal apology to the Senate for her previous actions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Appearing on Arise News on Sunday, Okolugbo maintained that the recent court ruling in favour of Senator Natasha was merely an obiter dictum—a judicial aside with no binding legal force—and not an enforceable order.
He dismissed suggestions that the ruling had reinstated the senator, stressing that even if it were binding, her return would still require procedural clearance by the Clerk of the National Assembly and approval from the Senate leadership.
“She had earlier declared her intention to resume last Tuesday, and now her legal team has written to notify the Senate of her intention to return this Tuesday. But that won’t be possible. There’s a process,” Okolugbo explained.
“The court communication must first be submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly, who will then transmit it to the Senate leadership. They’ll deliberate, decide, and instruct the sergeants-at-arms accordingly. It’s not automatic.”
Okolugbo also criticised Natasha’s decision to appeal the ₦5 million contempt fine, calling it hasty and pointing out that the Senate may still respond with a cross-appeal.
“While it’s within her legal right to appeal the contempt ruling, why not wait for the Senate to review it and formally respond? You don’t selectively appeal parts of a ruling and expect an obiter to be enforceable. That’s not how the law works,” he argued.
He further noted that Senator Natasha had failed to meet the court’s conditions, which included removing contentious social media posts and issuing sincere apologies to both the court and the Senate President.
“The Senate President’s position was clear: she must take down the Facebook post, apologise to him, and also to the court,” Okolugbo said.
He accused Natasha of issuing a satirical, insincere apology, which she later deleted, falling short of the standard expected.
“You don’t offer an apology in a mocking tone and expect it to count. That apology was meant to be directed, respectfully, to both Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the judiciary,” he added.
