Kwankwaso Becomes The Most Courted Man In Nigerian Politics – Babachir Spills

Published

on

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has revealed that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition are in active talks with Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, in a bid to secure Kano’s crucial votes ahead of the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NIVONEWS, Kwankwaso, who ran in the 2023 presidential race under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and finished fourth with 1,496,687 votes, drew his strongest support from Kano State, where he polled 997,279 votes—surpassing even the then-incumbent APC in its own stronghold.

With internal crises crippling the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), President Bola Tinubu and the APC had appeared poised for a smooth re-election in 2027. However, the sudden rise of the ADC coalition has disrupted that narrative. According to NIVONEWS, the coalition—which includes heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, and Rotimi Amaechi—is gaining momentum and drawing in influential figures across the country.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Lawal described Kwankwaso as a major political asset whose inclusion in the ADC coalition would significantly boost its chances. “It will be a big advantage if he joins us,” Lawal said. “There are quite a number of friends from the coalition who love him to join us, that I know. I know people are meeting him.”

He emphasized that Kwankwaso—whether representing himself and his supporters or bringing along the NNPP—is welcome. “The coalition is not about party logos or letterhead paper; it is about influential individuals. Even if Kwankwaso doesn’t come in directly, many of his loyalists and possibly local NNPP chapters may defect to the ADC.”

When asked whether the ADC was targeting NNPP structures, Lawal reiterated that the coalition’s strategy is focused on personalities rather than party machinery. “Big individuals are joining from across the country. Atiku joined, but he didn’t say the PDP is joining. The same logic applies to others.”

According to NIVONEWS, this ongoing scramble for Kwankwaso’s allegiance underscores Kano’s pivotal role in determining the 2027 presidential outcome. Meanwhile, Kwankwaso himself has maintained a strategic silence—further fueling the political suspense as both camps await his next move.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, who noted that military operations in the North-East continue to maintain strong pressure on insurgent groups.

According to him, NAF air platforms successfully engaged the targets using precision-guided munitions, destroying the structures, neutralising multiple terrorists, and dismantling key logistics facilities. This was later confirmed through battle damage assessments.

The statement added that sustained air operations have continued to weaken terrorist networks, disrupting their activities and forcing them into more defensive and unstable responses.
