From Daura To Destiny: Reps Celebrate Buhari’s Journey And National Transformation

Published

on

The Nigerian House of Representatives has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as “the end of an era defined by discipline, devotion to national service, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NIVONEWS, House Spokesperson Akin Rotimi Jr. noted in a statement on Saturday, July 13, that the National Assembly under Buhari’s presidency enjoyed a largely constructive and collaborative relationship with the executive. This synergy, he said, facilitated landmark legislative outcomes — notably the restoration of the January–December budget cycle starting with the 2020 Appropriation Act, which enhanced fiscal transparency, accountability, and effective planning.

The statement listed several historic laws signed during Buhari’s tenure, including the Petroleum Industry Act (2021), the Companies and Allied Matters Act (2020), and the series of Finance Acts from 2019 to 2022. According to NIVONEWS, these laws reshaped key economic sectors, improved the ease of doing business, and restructured oil and gas governance to increase national revenue.

President Buhari also approved critical constitutional amendments transmitted by the 9th National Assembly in 2023. These reforms included decentralising electricity generation and railway operations, granting autonomy to State Assemblies and Judiciaries, empowering states to run correctional facilities, and enforcing timelines for ministerial and commissioner nominations. These, the House noted, deepened federalism and expanded democratic governance.

Furthermore, Buhari institutionalised poverty alleviation through the National Social Investment Programme Agency Act, establishing a legal framework for interventions like N-Power and TraderMoni. He also made history by signing the Not Too Young to Run Act (2018) and declaring June 12 as Nigeria’s new Democracy Day, honouring MKO Abiola and addressing long-standing national grievances.

According to NIVONEWS, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, described Buhari as “an officer and statesman who earned nationwide respect for his integrity, simplicity, and moral clarity.” He added, “The news of his passing was deeply shocking. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”

The statement further highlighted that Buhari’s administration completed signature infrastructure projects, including the long-awaited Second Niger Bridge and over 1,000 kilometres of railway. His tenure, the House concluded, would be remembered for exemplary leadership, a spartan lifestyle, and enduring contributions to nation-building.

On behalf of the 10th Assembly, the House extended condolences to former First Lady Hajiya Aisha Buhari, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.

The State Wing Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ordered all public primary and secondary school teachers in Abuja to commence an indefinite strike from Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The union also directed parents and guardians to keep their children at home until further notice, citing unresolved welfare concerns and what it described as government inaction.

This followed a communiqué issued after an emergency SWEC meeting held in Gwagwalada, Abuja, over the weekend and signed by the state leadership of the union.

Teachers were instructed to fully comply with the strike directive and await further instructions from the union leadership, as the industrial action remains in force until their demands are addressed.

According to the communiqué, the strike became necessary after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which elapsed without a satisfactory response.

The union recalled that although previous interventions led to the suspension of an earlier strike, several key issues affecting teachers’ welfare were still unresolved.

It also expressed concern that a committee set up to address outstanding entitlements submitted its report in August 2025, but the findings have not been made public or implemented.

While acknowledging the payment of the new minimum wage and some salary arrears, the union insisted that major concerns remain unattended.

The NUT further demanded reforms in promotion processes and a review of the 2024 promotion exercise.

After what it described as unsuccessful engagements and expired deadlines, the union declared that all teachers in the FCT will remain on strike indefinitely until their demands are met.
