Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Friday officially handed over the political machinery of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State to Governor Umo Eno, marking a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NIVONEWS, the symbolic transfer took place at the Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, where Akpabio publicly declared Governor Eno as the new leader of the ruling party in the state.

“I hereby hand over the APC structure in Akwa Ibom to the new party leader in the state,” Akpabio declared, handing over a broom — the APC’s symbol — to Eno. “This broom will sweep away poverty, underdevelopment, and disunity from our state.”

The announcement was met with thunderous applause from party faithful, stakeholders, and political leaders in attendance.

Governor Eno, who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially joined the APC last month, ending the PDP’s 26-year grip on power in the oil-rich state. Speaking at the ceremony, he said his defection was driven by a strong desire to unlock stalled infrastructure development — particularly the long-delayed Ibom Deep Seaport project.

“We are not afraid to join the APC because we believe it is the platform that will help us realise the Ibom Deep Seaport,” Eno said. “This project has eluded us for over three decades, but today we are hopeful the federal government will support its delivery.”

Also speaking at the event, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje proclaimed Akpabio as a national leader of the party, while affirming Eno’s new role as the state party head.

“From today, Governor Umo Eno becomes the APC leader in Akwa Ibom, while Senator Akpabio remains a respected national leader of our great party,” Ganduje announced.

The event, which drew key APC chieftains, federal lawmakers, and influential political figures from across the country, signaled a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his closing remarks, Governor Eno pledged inclusive governance, promising to serve all Akwa Ibom residents regardless of political affiliation.

“I am governor for everyone,” he said. “I will continue to lead with fairness, equity, and the fear of God.”

Political analysts say the development could redefine the balance of power in Akwa Ibom, as well as fast-track long-pending development projects.
