In its weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, NiMet predicted thunderstorms in several northern states on Friday morning, with light to moderate rainfall expected over Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, and Bauchi States. Other areas in the North will experience sunny skies interspersed with patches of cloud. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected to develop in the region.

In the southern region, the agency forecast cloudy morning skies with chances of light rainfall in Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. These are expected to intensify into moderate rains across most of the region as the day progresses.
On Saturday, the northern states will continue to experience sunny conditions with scattered cloud cover in the morning. Isolated thunderstorms and light rains are forecast for Adamawa, Taraba, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe, and Kaduna. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated over Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Borno, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.
The central region is expected to witness light morning thunderstorms over Niger and Plateau, while heavier rainstorms may occur later in the day across the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau.
For the South, NiMet forecast cloudy skies in the morning with localized rain expected in Abia, Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in many parts of the region during the afternoon and evening.
By Sunday, thunderstorms are again expected in the North. Morning rainfall is likely in parts of Taraba, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna, while other parts of the North will remain sunny with intermittent clouds. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are predicted over Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, and Yobe States by afternoon and evening.
Central states will see cloudy skies in the morning with possible thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Niger, and Plateau. These conditions may persist later in the day, particularly in Benue, the FCT, Nasarawa, and Plateau.
In the southern region, morning rainfall is likely in Ondo, Edo, Ogun, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with the rest of the day expected to remain mostly cloudy. However, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast to return by afternoon or evening.
NiMet advised residents to exercise caution as strong winds are likely to precede thunderstorms in many affected areas. The public is urged to secure loose objects, avoid driving in heavy rain, unplug electrical appliances during storms, and stay away from tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches.
Airline operators are also encouraged to obtain updated, airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid flight planning and safety.
The agency further advised Nigerians to stay informed by following its updates via official channels, including the NiMet website.
