“Supreme Court Has Spoken, Now Deliver! – Tinubu Tells Okpebholo”
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on his Supreme Court victory, urging him to see the verdict as an opportunity to intensify efforts toward rapid development across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to NIVONEWS, the President’s message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday in Abuja. Tinubu welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling as a win for democracy and a mandate for governance, calling on Okpebholo to be magnanimous in triumph and rally all Edo people—regardless of political leaning—around a shared vision of growth and progress.
“Now that the governor has cleared the legal hurdles, it is time for him to accelerate the delivery of exceptional services and good governance to the people of Edo State, which he has already begun,” President Tinubu was quoted as saying.
He also extended congratulations to the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Edo State and urged party leaders and members to remain united and focused on delivering the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate.
According to NIVONEWS, the Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, over the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
The apex court upheld earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had declared Okpebholo the duly elected governor. The judgment emphasized that the petitioner failed to provide compelling evidence to support claims of electoral malpractice, such as over-voting and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
According to NIVONEWS, the court further noted that Ighodalo’s case suffered from insufficient witness testimony, particularly in relation to evidence tied to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), rendering his claims untenable.
