The initiative is spearheaded by four distinguished Nigerians—Gbenga Shobo, Dr. Toyin Sanni, Chike Iroegbunam, and Jude Chiemeka—with a shared mission to revive the original purpose of secondary education in Nigeria and instil values of integrity, leadership, creativity, and service among students.
According to the organizers, the program draws inspiration from their own educational journeys, aiming to motivate today’s students while encouraging alumni to give back through mentorship, resources, or time.
Gbenga Shobo, a proud alumnus of St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, credited his school with shaping the core values that propelled his four-decade-long career in finance and his rise to Deputy Managing Director at FirstBank.
“My years at St. Gregory’s built a brotherhood founded on purpose, hard work, and integrity,” Shobo reflected.
Dr. Toyin Sanni, who attended Queen’s School, Ibadan, said her experience laid the foundation for her success in finance, leadership, and advocacy.
“Queen’s School taught me how to think, create, and lead. Its science labs introduced me to Newton’s Laws and the Pythagorean Theorem—concepts that later guided my decision-making in business,” she said.
Chike Iroegbunam, who left the UK to attend Igbobi College, Lagos between 1976 and 1981, described the school as a life-shaping institution.
“Igbobi instilled in me values and principles that turned my architectural dreams into reality,” he said.
Jude Chiemeka, a graduate of St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, now a leader in Nigeria’s financial markets, credited his moral grounding and professional purpose to his secondary school years.
“We were raised to fear God, strive for excellence, and serve others. Those values continue to shape my leadership today,” he said.
